There is lots of information about meteor showers in Charles Fort´s books, perhaps mostly in "New Lands":
http://cdn.preterhuman.net/texts/strang ... 0Lands.pdf
Fort treated astronomy (and other sciences) with a delightful sense of humor. Among other things, the observed patterns of meteor showers made him wonder whether Earth was stationary. His books may seem a bit crazy, but they provide a quite stimulating mental exercise!

^ Charles Fort was a fascinating individual, and I have always viewed his subject matter with the same open-minded skeptical reductionism that is essential when confronted by anything that appears to be extra-ordinary.
Something that was slap-bang in the middle of his cabinet of curiosities was of course the fabled Tunguska Russian meteorite that wasn't (or was it?) I was instantly reminded of Tunguska as soon as I heard about this, and my egg-timer's been counting down until the MSM made reference to it. So...bingo http://www.foxnews.com/science/2013/02/ ... ska-event/
If Charles Fort was alive today, he'd be a likely member of 'Clues'...

Re: Russian Meteor Shower 15-2-2013
Assuming the meteor has a volume of 10-20 m3 and consisting of some rock and arrives at 15 km/s speed into (thin) atmosphere at say 150 km altitude it will be heated up and decelerated due to friction and collisions with nitrogen (N2) and oxygen (O2) molecules in the atmosphere and start to burn, i.e. what we will see is smoke of the burning/glowing red hot rock when the meteor has slowed down to say 5 km/s speed at 50 km altitude (as seen on photos). It is probably, then, visible for 30-40 seconds whizzing past above the Russian observers down in Siberia. A little later there is little left of the meteor - is has all become smoke - except some broken apart bits that maybe drop straight down making a hole in the ice on a lake.anon1911 wrote: What exactly do you expect a meteorite to look like when entering the earth's atmosphere?
I assume the meteor colliding with molecules in the atmosphere at 50 000 m altitude will cause some noise and a pressure wave that will be heard and felt (and cause some windows to brake) say 2-3 minutes later down on ground ... when the meteor has already disappeared behind the horizon. You know, the speed of sound in air is not very big.
Compare with the ISS that orbits Earth at 400 km altitude (no atmosphere atoms = vacuum) and 8 km/s speed. It does neither heat up or slow down up there due to lack of friction. Problem is to get down alive from there without burning up while coming down.

It looks like some crappy video game. bullshit... I also struggle to believe that the light from such an object would be brighter than the light from the sun near noon, even in the winter. Chelyabinsk isn't far North enough.

Ok folks - I have quoted below the most 'interesting' parts of this article of the Telegraph:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/spac ... bombs.html
Wow - ever heard of such a thing? I haven't - and am starting to smell rotten fish, as in yet another robbery of taxpayers' monies. Since the PTB have now been exposed with their silly, faked space enterprises (ISS, Mars Rover and all), could they possibly be planning to phase out this shit - and replace it with a new, 'more useful and popular', yet astronomically expensive "space-shield program to protect the public from cosmic hazards"?

The "Anti-Asteroid Defence System"???Russian meteor exploded with force of 30 Hiroshima bombs
The meteor that streaked across the skies over Russia on Friday exploded with a force 30 times greater than the Hiroshima bomb, Nasa scientists have said.
Scientists from Nasa, the US space agency, estimated that the amount of energy released from impact with the atmosphere was about 30 times greater than the nuclear bomb dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima during World War II.
"Instead of fighting on Earth, people should be creating a joint system of asteroid defence," the Russian parliament's foreign affairs committee chief Alexei Pushkov wrote on his Twitter account late Friday. "Instead of creating a (military) European space defence system, the United States should join us and China in creating the AADS - the Anti-Asteroid Defence System," the close ally of President Vladimir Putin wrote.

^ Yes, herein lies the punch-line for this meteor psy-op -- more funding for NASA!
See this:

See this:

And the news of an asteroid and a meteor on the same day is leading some to wonder whether we shouldn’t be devoting more resources to make sure the world has more information about any threats from space.
Re: Russian Meteor Shower 15-2-2013
And the psy-op continues -- now with a meteor fireball over Northern California the day after the Russian meteor:

Moving with thousands of mph? Who ever said that it moved that fast?lux wrote: Oh, I see. Moving horizontally at thousands of mph it split up into pieces and one of the pieces made a 90° turn and went straight down into a frozen lake and made a near perfect round hole.
Furthermore, we would need the exact location of the explosion of the meteorite in the air and the location of the lake to determine the angle of the falling pieces. I don't really get why you are so sure about the fact that it had to make a 90* turn.
A near perfect round hole is what I would expect anyway. No matter what the angle was.
You say scientists work without presenting eveidence, yet you call this event a 'psy-op' without presenting evidence either?Of course not. Our scientists are so good they don't need evidence to know what something is -- they can tell by simply looking at YouTube videos.

NASA says so:anon1911 wrote: Moving with thousands of mph? Who ever said that it moved that fast?
The meteor hit the atmosphere at a speed of 18 km/s (11.2 miles per second or 40,300 mph). It was moving at a shallow entry angle (less than 20 degrees) and broke apart some 15-25 km above the Russian city.

Re: Russian Meteor Shower 15-2-2013
Anything trying to land on Earth from outer space arrives at high speed, be it an UFO with green, olive eyed pilots, unmanned meteor(ite), a US secret weapon missile drone directed from Las Vegas or an ISS re-entry module/capsule piloted by ... a hero to be.
Reason being that in order to arrive at all you need speed. The problem is to brake, reduce the speed, in order to land at zero speed.
This Russian meteor(ite) is a good example what goes wrong, when you just rely on friction to brake. The meteor(ite) forgot a Elon Musk SpaceX heat shield and thus overheated, got too hot, started to burn, created smoke - AIR POLLUTION - and, due to lack of a parachute, went straight into a lake to cool down. Made a circular hole in the ice, too! Crazy! Imagine an UFO doing THAT! OK, no frosen lakes in New Mexico, USA!
NASA experts suggest that one (the only?) solution to prevent this happening is to send up something to re-direct or destroy anything from burning up applying an atomic bomb to it, etc.
Easiest solution though is just to fit a Leon Musk SpaceX heat shield on the incoming meteor(ite). And when you do it, attach also a parachute. Then the meteor(ite) will drop down outside LA and can be sold off at good profit at a Hollywood meteor auction.
I know Elon Musk has great problems with his electric Tesla S-class limousine and may be too busy save Earth from space destruction as outlined above. The Musk electric car runs out of energy too fast and never arrives as expected as reported by New York Times the other day.
Life is not easy. I wonder what will happen next!

Wow, I didn't know it was that fast before it had entered the atmosphere.
Can you please explain why you marked the 'less than 20 degrees' part? Do you think that this is any valuable information?
Lux apparently doesn't believe that a meteorite of this size only leaves a 'fluffy' trail like this, while you, simonshack, think that there shouldn't be a vapor trail at all.lux wrote: Personally, I have a hard time believing that a meteorite moving at thousands of mph left a fluffy trail like this:
So you two guys seem to have conflicting views about how such an event should look like?
I'd like both of you to explain what the trail is supposed to look like in a real event if not as shown on the images/videos of that day.
@Heiwa: Thank you for your input to this thread. Especially your first post was very informative.

Thanks for asking questions, anon1911 - as this is a prime purpose of this forum. However, before questioning our questions, it would be fair if you addressed some of our own. Quite a few have been raised since the beginning of this thread - and so far, no answers have been forthcoming.anon1911 wrote: Can you please explain why you marked the 'less than 20 degrees' part? Nonetheless, I will humor you by addressing this question of yours - which appears to deprive you of sleep:
"What exactly do you expect a meteorite to look like when entering the earth's atmosphere?"
I frankly don't know - and neither do you. As Nonho said, we cannot base ourselves on previous experience - as we have none. What we have, are a series of images which purport to depict the very same meteoric event (and its immediate aftermath):
Such as this:
http://en.rian.ru/photolents/20130215/1 ... hower.html
This:
http://en.rian.ru/photolents/20130215/1 ... hower.html
This:
This: ('less than 20 degrees'?)
This: (also 'less than 20 degrees'?)
http://www.greenreport.it/_new/index.ph ... t&id=20434
And this: (also 'less than 20 degrees'?)
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/cap ... _blog.html
***************************
And here is a VIDEO COMPILATION - ALSO purporting to depict the very same event:
full link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90Omh7_I8vI
If (after having observed /compared all of the above images) you do not nurture any questions whatsoever as to their authenticity, so be it. No one here will force into your mind any measure of skepticism that some of us may have in relation to this extraordinary event reported by our world's media corporations.

Re: Russian Meteor Shower 15-2-2013
CBS has a funny spiel on the meteorite story. It's called "Meteorites Attack!"
They've compiled a series of clips that show kids in school not panicking but covering their ears when the windows get blown out (no one actually ducks or anything...)
Also, much of the footage has what I believe is the same sample sound of glass shattering. Why do not ALL the windows break in multi-pane windows, but just some, and why not camera lens, car windshields, etc.?
They also suggest that the rock in question (actually, they refer to it several times in the plural, which could be due to the rock breaking up?) is travelling at 33,000 mph. How can that speed even be captured by the typical dashboard cameras that recorded it? If it's only 2500 miles (roughly) from New York to Los Angeles, that short blast across the Ural region should have barely been noticed before obliterating the entire area, let alone captured by multiple cameras and appearing like a rocket or plane disintegrating.
At min. 1.34, the time stamp appears to be accurate, but at 1.38, the stamp shows a date of 31.12.2012. Also, easy to explain away, but still odd...
http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=50141106n
addendum: Some Google searches revealed that:
1000 feet per second is about 682 MPH, the typical speed of a bullet from a hunting rifle. So, the meteor is travelling roughly 500 times faster than a bullet, and still can be captured by cheap dashboard cameras??? But, bullets from a gun can't be captured?

Re: Russian Meteor Shower 15-2-2013
What I find interesting about this is how this is all playing out pretty much exactly like the lady named Carol Rosin said it would in the video below. She was explaining how the space based weapons system, whether its real or not, would be based on protecting us first from the Soviets, then terrorists, rogue nations, asteroids, and the last card would the extraterrestrial threat. We're still at the 'rogue nations' phase ("for nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom") and are now moving into phase five of this grand hoax with falling rocks. She's been right on the money so far. As I posted out earlier in this thread in the link below, I'm quite certain that this fear mongering about Meteorites will indeed lead us right into the E.T psy op, showing exactly how it will likely be done.simonshack wrote:*
