No, you're thinking like a detective. Subtle difference.

Re: Global Oil Infrastructure
In my lifetime I have always seen the price of oil to rise because of some speculation or some financial crisis. In Italy it has reached a whopping 2 euros per liter of gasoline right now, and there's no doubt that people are consuming much less of it. If that was the intent, rising prices certainly works. Commute trains from where I live to Milan are full.
But all I'm saying is, at least in my country I never saw an explicit connection (as being given by the media) between the price of oil and the blowing up of oil wells, the accident in the gulf of Mexico or any of the oil wars. Even the Libyan war, that attacked directly the chief source of oil for Italy, was never given as a reason.
It is always as a consequence of the economy stagnating, the change with the dollar, lack of concurrence at the pump, and new governmental taxes etc. Right now in Italy taxes make for 65% of the final price of gasoline, BTW.
I am not saying all these reasons are real or legit -- I wouldn't know. I'm just saying that if all the events exposed in this thread were meant to convince people of good reasons for the oil prices to rise, those reason are never directly given as such. Maybe people wouldn't really believe them either.
Everything remains, at most, hinted at: "oil is dangerous". But perhaps oil propaganda in Europe and the US is radically different.
