Blast at Venezuela Oil Refinery
http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/25/world/americas/venezuela-refinery-blast/index.html wrote:
An explosion rocked the Amuay oil refinery in northwestern Venezuela, killing 39 people, including a 10-year-old boy, a Venezuelan official said Saturday.

The incident occurred at 1:11 a.m. when "we had a release of gas whose origin we are going to determine," Rafael Ramirez, president of the state-owned petroleum company PDVSA, told VTV. "The gas generated a cloud that then exploded and provoked fires in at least two tanks of the refinery and in the surrounding areas."

He said the explosion damaged the infrastructure of the refinery and nearby houses.

The refinery -- one of the world’s largest -- is part of the giant Paraguana complex in Falcon state.

Venezuela, a founding member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, is one of the world’s largest oil exporters.

Oh god, I suppose the hackers went under the username "Anonymous", but were later traced to "al Qaeada"? Shit, this fiction writes itself.

The best (and worst) argument I heard against Peak Oil was that the powers that be will "safely" decelerate our use of oil until it's no longer necessary to rely on it, and the reserves predicted to last a short while will be increasingly drawn out to a further and further "imminent disaster point", thereby re-creating the crisis every so often to boost sales, cause fear, and so on and so forth.

It also seems, to me, to be the worst argument, because it fails to address the fact that those technologies are theoretically developed as fast as they are used to develop themselves! In other words, there is nothing as cheap and as plentiful and with such high BTUs and so many other uses for our convenience-machines.

I would welcome the robbery of a "motive" for the warmongers, even if it meant less convenience, and (as nonhocapito has suggested) more localizing of shit. Perhaps this would either:

1) increase addictions, and slavery and wars of greed

~and/or~

2) diminish resources for wars, and cause fewer nonsensical items to be manufactured, wasting our time and our children's minds and our life force and our ecosystem -- and result in the diminished importance and availability of television

---

If only "Peak Oil" were real, I would welcome it with my money on number 2!
