Hey guys,

Firstly, fbenario - points duly noted and appreciated. Certainly brings the word 'preview' to the forefront with regard to re-reading a post before submitting one.

nonhocapito - thanks for the heads-up and pointers.

I've not posted on a forum before and never really had an urge or felt the passion to do so until recently.

I enjoy reading the posts and research of yourselves, Simon Shack, reel.deal, warriorhun and brianv. As regular, hardcore members, it's without question that you must be dubious of new members. As a reader for a considerable time, I even am! I see a name I don't recognise, my eyes divert immediately to the date to which they joined. During the last month, the joining dates have been - well, questionable and a little disappointing for me, so it must be more so for the names mentioned..

So with that said and moving on, I'd gladly take a trip to Croydon and take a few pictures or video. Yes, London is big. I hate Croydon, too. It's never been a nice area, is rotten to get to and is rotten when you get to it. I know wherever you go in the world, there are always those 'places' or particular streets which are considered dodgy, iffy or a 'you don't go there at this time' and Croydon has always been that type of place to me unfortunately. Hey, I'm sure some parts are nice. The once-considered undesirable areas of London are now the trendy parts to live. I know as I live in Brixton, which has had its fair share of notoriety.

What a rambler! Sorry guys. OK, I'll crack on.

We all have jobs and lives to live, but I'm sure I can get to the area in question at some point this week. Let me know what - picture-wise, etc, you'd like me to photograph or take note of.

Cheers,
Pug.

Hey guys,

Here's another person who has featured heavily in the news over here the past few days.

Malaysian Asyraf Haziq Rossl - a student who was videoed sitting on the pavement, blood visible, clutching his jaw, dazed. The 'raw' looking footage then had what first appeared to be a person of goodwill helping the student up, but THEN, after turning him round, with the student's back to him, he rifled through his rucksack. This attracted some other up-to-no-gooders who dipped into the bag, too.

Video: [Youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Gex_ya4-Oo[/Youtube]

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Gex_ya4-Oo

The person filming, wherever they are, speaks occasionally whilst videoing the event. A female 'from the area' sounding young person who makes no indication that she was in any way going to call the police or an ambulance for the injured man, yet continued to film him throughout.

News stations repeatedly stated their shock at the video and the last couple of days have tracked the individual down, hence his name being released.

It is reported that Asyraf Haziq Rossl - (sometimes named as Mohammed Asyraf Haziq and also Mohd Asyraf Haziq) was hit and had his jaw broken in several places. Would that result in some kind of pinning, taping or stapling or bandaging of any form? I thought it would and not simply a tissue being held during a press conference.

There are lots of images online now of him and despite the video - to me - looking realistic - the press on him since certainly is suspect.

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Indeed, Pug. I have never known a piece of tissue to have such wonderful healing powers. I thought this was staged as soon as I saw it. My bet is that he is related to some high Commissioner or some kind.

Of course, the "No Fear" hoodie at the press conf was his idea.

Having worked in Malaysia some years ago i still get emails from friends of mine regarding the current political situation there.
At present there is some civil misgivings/unrest with regard to the incumbent government [which is predominately Malay] and their apparent misuse of powers to 'line their own pockets'.
For example PM Najib is under scrutiny from French authorities, due to the purchase of two [reconditioned] French submarines.
Apparently they are unsuitable for purpose in S.E. Asia waters.
During negotiations for the deal, it led to the very tragic/messy murder by two security personnel, employed by the PM/Gov't, who are now under sentence of death, of a female Mongolian translator/mistress who was involved in the deal.
Some of the Malaysian powers-that-be [Najib was defence secretary [or some such similar role] at the time and dealt with the 'deal' to secure the TWO diesel -electric submarines at a cost over USD2 billion and rising!] were using her for means other than translations [French/English and/or Bahasa].
She, apparently wanted her 'cut' of the deal and was taken into the jungle [possibly raped] shot to death, and then wrapped in C4 explosives and blown to smithereens with the hope that the jungle would remove the evidence.
Anyway, apparently the French government is carrying out an audit on any 'commissions' paid by the French company under government protocol to the Malaysians to 'secure' the deal.
This has been bubbling for the last 2-3 years or so.
Anyhow, my point is maybe the Malaysian Govt is trying to 'curry' [no pun intended!] some favour with the general public should the major story break [even though it is and has been news in Malaysia for sometime now].
Apologies for seemingly going off-topic but there may be some connection, however tenuous.

Thanx for that (not that I'm a train/ tram spotter).

Here's some more footage of the Croydon riots.

Have to say I'm in agreement with real deal over this, having lived in Stockwell during the 81 riots.

I also worked in Brixton during the 80's riots and saw the looting at first hand - before the advent of mobile phones. That is why I questioned the earlier posts in this thread that appeared to me to suggest that none of this was happening. It did. The damage is real. Was it orchestrated? Probably. Were there Agent Provocateurs? Probably. Has the media embellished imagery? Probably. Is it a Psyop? Not in my opinion, although I think certain parties are now using it for their own gains and rubbing their hands together gleefully.

Will all this rioting affect Notting Hill Carnival, due to kick off in a couple of weeks?

I am still in Croydon... I am having troubles placing this picture, maybe someone can help me:

Image
From http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2011/0 ... pdate.html

It is captioned "Property burns near Reeves Corner in Croydon on August 9, 2011."

"Reeves corner" is where the furniture store burned, and where the polish woman climbed down the kitchenware shop tent onto the arms of the firefighters because her house "was torched" (http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/ne ... oting.html).

However, I cannot find this building anywhere in the whereabouts of reeves corner in google street view (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=51 ... 19&vpsrc=0). And yet it should be pretty easy to find, with that little mosque-like dome...

It's this spot, google maps places it 1.6 miles from Reeves Corner. Moving down the street, the blue fronted estate agency is now GT Stewart Solicitors.
