Another issue with supermarkets of any kind is the sheer waste.

Fruit is rejected because it doesn't look perfect and round like a painting of a selected fruit. Wheat is turning out to be a real problem for our health since the wheat plant today is not the same plant it was 50 years ago. Today's wheat is called semi-dwarf wheat and is 18 inches tall instead of 4 feet tall. The plant hasn't been genetically modified but cross- bred with goat grass to make it shorter to withstand wind and droughts better. Dwarf wheat can't survive on it's own without the help of fertilizers and pesticides.
The story of wheat's hybridization to increase yields tenfold goes back to the 1970's. Norman Borlaug is a 1970 Noble Peace Prize winner for his work with semi-dwarf, high-yielding, disease-resistant wheat.
But this dwarf wheat has been linked to many modern day diseases by in particular Dr. William Davis who wrote the book Wheat Belly.
Since I cut all grains out of my diet in October, I lost 30 pounds and many symptoms disappeared like brain fog, memory problems, and gut inflammation. If I eat wheat I get those symptoms back. If I avoid wheat and gluten then they go away. Also of interest is how gluten is in almost all processed foods. Turns out a protein in gluten, gliadin, acts as an appetite stimulant, causing hunger pangs every 90 to 120 minutes.
Now I can eat a wheat free meal of food like meat, eggs, butter, coconut oil, or olive oil and not be hungry for almost the whole day.
