Re: The Age of Media Fakery: Art Corner
I have been told that Hawaii was the one significant state to not have Japanese internment camps after the "surprise" of the Pearl Harbor attack. Hmmm.
Re: The Age of Media Fakery: Art Corner
I don't think there were any Japanese internment camps east of the Mississippi River, so I don't know what to make of that.hoi.polloi wrote:I have been told that Hawaii was the one significant state to not have Japanese internment camps after the "surprise" of the Pearl Harbor attack. Hmmm.

Interesting. Although I heard this from someone who lived through World War II in the United States, they aren't exactly the most informed person about everything. I may try to get more details about why they believe this.fbenario wrote:I don't think there were any Japanese internment camps east of the Mississippi River, so I don't know what to make of that.hoi.polloi wrote:I have been told that Hawaii was the one significant state to not have Japanese internment camps after the "surprise" of the Pearl Harbor attack. Re: The Age of Media Fakery: Art Corner
I thought this fit the bill with perfect irony, death of a childhood fantasy by cartoon fakery:
The artist's comment note:

Simon, thanks for the Dali inspiration, I love his stuff...burning giraffes, melting clocks etc. Some great ideas can percolate on that theme I'm sure
The artist's comment note:
Think we should enlighten him that there is no "good charity for victims of 9/11" & why?tom December 20, 2010 3:08 am
If anyone can recommend a good charity for the victims of 9/11 let me know and I’ll post a banner to it under the sketch.
I hope nobody finds this too offensive

Thanks for joining, SG. I like your money-plane. Clever idea. And the video from reel.deal - clear thinking - ha! And the cartoons from you and Maat.
Hooray - cartoons. That's what 9/11 was after all - a giant, trillion dollar cartoon. This is not entirely 9/11 related, but it shows that the past was concerned with similar issues. Some classics from Carrey Orr - turn of the (previous) century cartoonist.

Here's one from Paul Conrad.

Re: The Age of Media Fakery: Art Corner
Introducing a great artist I hold in the highest esteem - my very good friend Giacomo (aka our forum member Alef). Giacomo is a graphic designer with the quirkiest sense of humor - and also runs a rooftop bed-&-breakfast overlooking the breathtaking bay of Naples with a bird's view of Capri in the distance - enough to gather all the artistic inspiration in the world, you might say... He's also the author of the most avant-gardistic shortfilm on 9/11 ever produced, "2001 Odissea sull Terra" ("2001, an Earth Odyssey") which is linked on the septemberclues.org website. In fact, one memorable evening we screened Giaco's hilarious, 20-minute masterpiece to a full house in a cool Naples joint - followed up by my own September Clues. So without further ado, here are some of his works which, with his kind permission, I have captioned with simple titles:
AA
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
SWISS NAIF
LET'S ROLL
TAPE COMMANDS
FOUND IN SHANKSVILLE
THE SUSPECTS
SILVERSTEIN DOME PROJECT
AAnd last - but not least...
ZOZZY BIN - LADEN

I thought this artwork from our member Extremophile deserved its place in the art corner...
