Re: What is Gravity?
Too bad the muffled bootleg video of a classroom setting is that of Richard A. Muller, the very same propagandist extraordinaire responsible for brainwashing hundreds (if not thousands?) of students with his NASA physics, as well as his books and writings on dinosaurs, terrorism and so on. Written ...

Re: What is Gravity?
Whether, he's right or wrong, there's nothing like a living toupee taking on the establishment: CvWeYJg9Oxs This guy isn't a fan of Electric Universe, he even has a video called EU Poppycock, but I'm sure his ideas would sit quite well within the broader EU framework. But still, Sceppy, surely it is...

Re: Why Rocketry Doesn't Work in the Vacuum
By the way, gravity does not exist, it's simply air pressure acting on everything but that's another story. I've spent my whole life skirting around the edges of insanity, so I'm perfectly capable of entertaining all manner of seemingly contradictory notions. :) Just one example being the ongoing &...

Re: Why Rocketry Doesn't Work in the Vacuum
@Sceppy, In your model it would seem that it is the nozzle itself and not the top/inner wall of the combustion chamber that bears the brunt of the thrust produced by the ambient atmosphere rushing back in to fill the void? That is, the rocket is being pushed by the nozzle? And if so, is it plausible...

Re: Who really owns the major companies in the world?
This is an important question. Who owns Planet Earth? I think, in this context, and in all seriousness, the correct question is "Who PWNs Planet Earth?" "Pwn is a leetspeak slang term derived from the verb own,[1][2][3] as meaning to appropriate or to conquer to gain ownership. The t...

Re: Why Rocketry Doesn't Work in the Vacuum
Yes, say that 1 kg of compressed air (no combustion) is leaving the ship into vacuum through a nozzle at 100 m/s velocity, this alone produces a force of 100 N that propulse the ship forward in the vacuum. So when the *ahem* Lunar Module was depressurized for extra-vehicular activities it trembled ...

Re: Why Rocketry Doesn't Work in the Vacuum
The space immediately following the rocket is also not a vacuum as it is filled with the rocket's exhaust. Yet, if we take the accepted view that space, and therefore the vacuum of space, is infinite, then we must also accept that space has an infinite capacity to 'receive' ejected gas and can neve...

Re: Why Rocketry Doesn't Work in the Vacuum
Please correct me if I'm wrong or if it has already been mentioned, but could Boethius's argument be paraphrased/re-phrased thusly: Rockets move because of a lack of internal equilibrium Breaching one end of the rocket in a vacuum will cause immediate return to equilibrium, resulting in a lack of m...

“The highly diluted gas in this layer can reach 2,500 °C (4,530 °F) during the day. Even though the temperature is so high, one would not feel warm in the thermosphere, because it is so near vacuum that there is not enough contact with the few atoms of gas to transfer much heat.” http://en.wikipedi...

I'm asking more for weigh-ins on any insight or educated guesses what you all think the hoped result of this hoax is, what you think the intended agenda is, if you think there is an intended reaction to this story. : On the radio news this morning I heard somebody making a big deal about how it too...
