Videos can be embedded in our forum from a number of sources. Please read this topic to understand HOW, and consider carefully the goals of the forum when choosing IF it's a good idea to post it. The tags are available in the editor via a dropdown menu.
Please note that each video website follows its own rules as to what you should put between tags. Instructions follow here below.
Embedding from Youtube
1) Take the video id
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXda5Kn2LAM
.
2) Put only this code : AXda5Kn2LAM between the [Youtube][/Youtube] tags, which you will find in the "embed videos" scroll-down menu at top right of the forum's posting page.
Embedding from Vimeo
1) Take the whole url
http://vimeo.com/19068187
2) Put it between tags
[vimeo]http://vimeo.com/19068187[/vimeo]
Embedding from Liveleak
1) Take the whole url
http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=3fb_1249599522
2) Put it between tags
[liveleak]http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=3fb_1249599522[/liveleak]
Embedding from Dailymotion
1) Take the video id
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xmcy3u_september-clues-partie-a-version-francaise_news
2) Put it between tags
[dailymotion]xmcy3u[/dailymotion]
Embedding from Metacafe
1) Take the whole url including the final slash
http://www.metacafe.com/watch/yt-wKQ7fcruzfk/s ... es_part_1/
2) Put it between tags
[metacafe]http://www.metacafe.com/watch/yt-wKQ7fc ... es_part_1/[/metacafe]
This is all for now. I'm testing more websites (such as CNN and stuff) but some seem to have quite complicated sharing codes. But feel free to suggest more. Anyway I think this was a necessary move, considering how Youtube seems to be pretty strong (and efficient) on censorship right now.

Re: Tags to embed videos in the forum pages
FYI: Instead than at the top of every page as I did at first, I put a link to this page directly in the post editor, to the right of the "embed videos" dropdown menu. The link opens in a new window/tab in order not to get in the way of the message you're editing.

Re: REQUIRED: How to embed videos in the forum pages
ATTENTION please from all our membership:
Please have and demonstrate good reason when posting videos on our forum. We don't need this place to become Facebook and/or YouTube.
Please do NOT advertise, post hate videos or flood topics with potentially offensive/subliminal media/music. Please see our topics like: Is MUSIC used as a propaganda/mind-control tool? and Are Movies Unwatchable? to understand why certain media may be offensive to some readers, why extremely clear context and careful discrimination is required of our members when posting any media, and why we should be ready to get into a discussion about any media's demerits. (Our policy in response to any media deemed by moderators to be a psychological attack is: shoot down the media first, ask questions later.)
Please DO explain the context of the video, why you posted it and/or have the explanation at the ready in case any single member challenges its presence on the site. This forum is the thinking person's place of refuge from reckless media; that is a rare occurrence on the entire Internet, surprisingly enough.
Thank you.

Re: How to embed videos in the forum pages
This should be correct method for Vimeo embed right?
[Vimeo]https://vimeo.com/137764530[/Vimeo]
Does not show the video when I preview my post before submitting.
Where am I going wrong here?

Re: How to embed videos in the forum pages
Each one is different, as posted above. For YouTube, for example, you don't put the whole URL, you just need the call number.
Just place a897sdnua90 between [youtube][/youtube].
For Vimeo, you will need http:// but https tries to call secure server, which I believe our site won't do.

Re: How to embed videos in the forum pages
Embedding from CNN
(horrible, but sometimes helpful)
1) look for the last button as shown here, next to the video you want to embed:
2) click on it, look at the embed code. It's something like this:
(let me know if the video is interesting, haven't watched it)

3) just copy the url (in blue), and put it between the cnn tags:<iframe width="416" height="234" src="http://edition.cnn.com/video/api/embed. ... s-orig.cnn" frameborder="0"></iframe>
result:[ Cnn ]http://edition.cnn.com/video/api/embed. ... s-orig.cnn[ /Cnn ]
