8.8 earthquake hit outside Chiles cost

A massive magnitude-8.8 earthquake struck near the coast of south-central Chile early on Saturday, collapsing buildings and causing blackouts in parts of the capital Santiago, 200 miles away.

A tsunami warning was issued for Chile and Peru by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, and a tsunami watch was issued for Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica and Antarctica.

Chile EarthquakeTsunami Watch issued for Hawaii with any waves due just after 11am local time.

This is a big one.

Well - it sure looks devastating !... :P
According to CNN, it was "64 times as powerful as the Haiti earthquake".

Have a look at those pictures just published on "La Repubblica", titled:

Let me get this out of the way : I have NO idea why we continuously get weird imagery from disaster areas around the World. Anyone who cannot see the strangeness of the proposed imagery is free to skip the issue altogether. What I'm saying here is that NO pictures from a real catastrophy should look in the least strange - or photoshopped - or as the "twitter pictures" in the previous post, totally ridiculous.

"La Repubblica" (largest Italian newspaper) has published today various
sets of pictures of the CHILE EARTHQUAKE on their online edition.

This set is credited to "one of our readers in Santiago, Emanuele Diviso".
He is said to be a photographer who's been three months in Chile.

This other set of pictures is allegedly from "Chilean newspapers".

It contains this photograph:

Nothing strange so far, apart from the little coincidence that both Mr. Diviso and the Chilean press have shot the same scene...

But, at closer inspection, something isn't quite right. In the comparison below, it should be clear that we are comparing the 2 very same tubular-shaped pink downspouts from opposed (approx) 45? angles. Should they not both look identical from any given angle? You be the judge:

There are many more house-rubble pictures from Chile (and many more issues about them) which I'll discuss further on.
And yes, I have personally visited earthquake-sites in the past.

BTW, our local 'expert', Italian vulcanologist Enzo Boschi, has declared that the Chile earthquake was 30.000 (yes, thirty thousand) times stronger - in terms of released energy - than the one that levelled Aquila in April 2009 (which almost knocked me out of my bed at 3AM). No kidding.

Unbelievable as it is, that is how the scale actually works. Every time you go up one on the Richter scale, energy gets multiplied by about 32. This means that 7 has 32 times more energy released than 6, and 8 is 32 times more energy than 7. Therefor 8 is about 1000 times more energy than 6 (32X32). Once you get to 9, it is about 30000 more than 6 (32X32X32).

So their maths is right, but was there actually a 8.8 in Chile...

Thanks for the clarification, Jazza.

Regarding the downspouts comparison, I have rephrased my question to make my point clearer.

That's a beautiful work of art.

But what the hell is going on behind it? This could have been made in a California photo lab.

Perhaps all this earthquake gibberish is used to hide ugly political deeds. USA has been warring with Central and South American countries for a long time now. Looks like they can finally get away with whatever they want and call it a "disaster relief" effort, produce some post-modern graphic design montages, bad acting, dramatic music and nobody asks any questions.

Until we start being more critical or intelligent about these "sources" we are unfortunately going to have to assume that news is officially a dead man animated from within by mechanical puppetry. Journalism is over and all we can do is sit around and ask questions. Kind of sickening.

Yes, Hoi... Asking questions is all we can do. I may, myself, be asking too many lately... Some friends are telling me "stick to September Clues, you're exposing yourself too much!". They may be right, but I can't hold myself faced with the current flood of media bullsh*te.

Now we are asked to believe that Chile, a modern civilized country, explodes into anarchy because of an earthquake... In ultra-poor Haiti, the looting-reports were a little more believable - but Chile is a wholly different matter. Perhaps - just perhaps - this is to justify US troops to intervene and 'reinsate law and order' ? Hmm?... Here is CNN reporting 'supermarket looting' in Chile:

"LOOTING AN ISSUE IN CHILE"

THE CARABINEROS ARE THERE - BUT ARE APPARENTLY HELPLESS TO STOP THE DISARMED LOOTERS?? Gimme a break, folks...

INTRODUCING "CARLOS" (I'll just call him "Carlos")
In the CNN video linked above, we have about a minute's worth of 'looting footage'. Within that minute, a personnage seems to appear over and over again in different scenes of the street mayhem. He has a BLUE JUMPER with twin white stripes and wears white shoes. The odds of him being captured 5 times in different locations by the same cameraman are, I believe - uh - rather remote...

_____________________________________________________Now, where have we seen that BLUE, twin white-striped jumper before?

You've got to love that caption on top left of this report : "IMAGENES SIN EDITAR" - which means "UNEDITED IMAGES"...
Lastly, the audio of that CNN report features a horridly inept female translator - just like the reports from CNN's Iran street protest reports (with the infamous NEDA episode). I guess the media-psychologist-experts behind this sh#t figure that a shaky translator injects more 'drama' to the newscasts...

I don't think so.

Man, daughter fall 13 floors in Chile quake

When their 13th-floor apartment began to shake, Alberto Rozas pulled his 7-year-old daughter into the bathroom doorway and waited for it to stop.

Instead, they fell.

Plummeting as their brand-new apartment building toppled like a felled tree, they hugged each other all the way down.

Rozas had no idea which way was up until he looked through his apartment's shattered window and spotted light -- "the light of the full moon."
...
"My TV fell on top of me and suddenly I saw stars shooting across my window," he said.

Torres and his roommate stacked furniture to reach that window -- now a skylight -- and escaped without clothes, coated in dust.

(WHO WRITES THIS STUFF?)

CONCEPCION, Chile ? When their 13th-floor apartment began to shake, Alberto Rozas pulled his 7-year-old daughter into the bathroom doorway and waited for it to stop.

Instead, they fell.

Plummeting as their brand-new apartment building toppled like a felled tree, they hugged each other all the way down.

Rozas had no idea which way was up until he looked through his apartment's shattered window and spotted light -- "the light of the full moon."

Rozas and his daughter, Fernanda, clambered up and to safety with nothing more than a few cuts, scrapes and bruises.

"The earthquake and the fall were one single, horrible thing," Rozas told The Associated Press on Sunday. "I held onto her and she never let me go."

Rozas' neighbors who lived on the other side of the hall found themselves trapped beneath the structure, while rescuers painstakingly used electric saws and a generator-powered hammer to cut into the concrete.

"We don't have any listening devices or cameras," said Ian Argo, a firefighter commander.

As of Sunday, 23 people had been pulled alive from the 15-story Rio Alta building and seven bodies had been removed. An estimated 60 people remained trapped inside.

Socovil, the company that opened the concrete-and-glass structure last June, issued a statement saying it had complied with all building codes. But many residents were angry.

"The construction was obviously poor," Rozas said.

Abel Torres, 25, had a view of the Bio Bio River from his sixth-floor apartment. He had just gotten home from his job at a nightclub when the quake hit at 3:34 a.m.

"My TV fell on top of me and suddenly I saw stars shooting across my window," he said.

Torres and his roommate stacked furniture to reach that window -- now a skylight -- and escaped without clothes, coated in dust.

On the second floor, Maribel Alarcon and her husband Gunther rushed to comfort their 2-year-old son Oliver when he started crying moments before the temblor.

Their concern was their salvation: Oliver's bedroom was the only place spared in their apartment.

"We prayed a lot," Alarcon said. "And if God let us survive, that was because someone was going to rescue us."

Much higher in the building, Rozas was sleeping alongside his daughter when the shaking began.

"There was dust, noise, everything falling," he said. "We went to the bathroom doorway. Then there was the fall. Finally it stopped."

After they climbed out of the wreckage, Rozas took Fernanda to her mother's house, then returned to help firefighters understand the layout of the toppled building.

He retrieved medicine and clothes for Fernanda. And his own guitar.

If I were the handler of these scriptwriters I would kick the butts of these cretinously inept folks until they turned red.

The first 4 'Carlos' scenes look to be the same location. Carlos' shirt is a little different from that of Neda's assistant in that less clearly visible, dark lines are seen between his double white lines. Still strikingly similar.
