As an example, here is one I spied today – an obvious “plug” for the old U2 spy plane which reportedly will be retired soon (or perhaps already has).
Spy Plane Fries Air Traffic Control Computers, Shuts Down LAX
According to “sources familiar with the incident” and although “the exact technical causes are not known “ ...
NBC reports that a U2 spy plane “passed through the airspace monitored by the L.A. Air Route Traffic Control Center” at an altitude of 60,000 feet and this simple event “overloaded” all the computers of a major ATC facility and their backup computers (yeah, sure it did) and …
This then caused a slew of occult-numbered flight cancellations, delays and diversions across the Southwest USA.As a result, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had to stop accepting flights into airspace managed by the L.A. Center, issuing a nationwide ground stop that lasted for about an hour and affected thousands of passengers.
So, the mere act of a U2 flying through a particular airspace caused the failure of all those computers and their backup computers and the shutdown of a major international airport and a chaotic disruption of commercial flights across several states and all for reasons unknown and all according to "sources familiar with the incident."At LAX, one of the nation’s busiest airports, there were 27 cancellations of arriving flights, as well as 212 delays and 27 diversions to other airports. Twenty-three departing flights were cancelled, while 216 were delayed. There were also delays at the airports in Burbank, Long Beach, Ontario and Orange County and at other airports across the Southwestern U.S.
Yeah, I'm sure that really happened.
