Looking head on - the funnel of the Concordia starts at just past five to A and ends at a minute or two to ten to B. Has anybody seen any other times/angles?

There are a couple of minutes of big hand of the clock rotation backwards missing?

Hmm...Terence, I too was wondering about the various angles/tilts (from image to image)...and water depths.

Here's an alleged infrared video of the nighttime rescue operations:

The next morning... http://www.rnw.nl/espanol/article/firma ... o-italiano

And now we have 29 missing ...and 6 confirmed dead. (Wanna bet a pint of beer that the casualty figure will grow to 9?)

Indeed Simon. Off beer for January though :o

There is another glaring anomaly about this incident which I cannot figure out but maybe there is an explanation for it.
There is damage and a huge hole on the Port (left) side and yet the ship has capsized onto it's starboard side. Water entering the craft would surely weigh down the port side first??

Come on ye grizzled ocean wayfaring experts enlighten us!

Are we going to be told that there is another huge hole on the starboard side?

Dear Terrence: as previously discussed, what we are told so far is that the final position of the ship was reached because captain Schettino dropped the anchor from the opposite side from the hole, in order to swing around the boat closer to the coast (the boat was sailing in the opposite direction from what we see it facing now). Doing so, he apparently also managed to pull the boat down from the intact side, and have the hole come to the surface, preventing more water to fill the boat (sorry I don't know nautical jargon, but you got the picture).

What is now happening is that we are told in all possible manners by msm that Schettino screwed up big time, failed to remain aboard until the last moment and got yelled at and insulted over the phone by the coast guard (the italian-speaking reader can listen to the conversation here: http://video.corrierefiorentino.corrier ... /cf-167017). Another great achievement for Italy, for everyone to see. Sigh.

But, as Heiwa pointed out, from the things we are told so far we should conclude that captain Schettino at least got the last maneuver right. So he can't be such a big screw-up.

As to digital fakery: Established that the boat is in a location where everyone can see it so it is impossible for the entire boat to be a digital concoction -- certain parts, such as the infamous piece of rock, as suggested by brianv, or certain sequences, such as the line of passengers standing on the tilted ship (a circumstance that no alleged survivor so far has described) could easily be forged (and I'm not saying they are.)

Image
The line of people climbing down the tilted ship. Maybe these are all crew members. In any case, so far no survivor account contain description of such situation. From http://www.corriere.it/cronache/12_genn ... 9858.shtml

Just like with the presence of actual passengers, personally I haven't made up my mind yet. The situation is always developing, while we are told that the ship is sitting on a step of rock and sand, after which there is a drop of 80 meters.

What's sure is that this event remains verily absurd and suspiciously evocative. And ECB italian president Draghi declaring yesterday that the situation for the EU has gotten "very grave", doesn't make it any less suspicious.

In my mind this connects with the "Italy is under attack" topic, where italy becomes the soft spot to possibly damage irreparably the entire "concordia" in the EU...(sorry for the vague conspiracy theory here-- it is just difficult to avoid the idea).

looks very strange! Ship is at 90° list with bulbous bow above water, port upper side is horizontal, etc, etc. How can the ship rest so high above water? Photo is from an infrared video taken at night at unknown time by helicopter! More details would be welcome!

Anyway, I think incident is real (no psy-op or insurance fraud). The shipowner had decided that the vessel should race by the island at high speed to please passengers and islanders, it had been done before, and ... bad luck ... ship touched a rock and started to leak, etc, etc.

The Master did a very good job! Beached the ship on the rocks and managed to ensure that 99% of people aboard were evacuated to shore via lifeboats, calling his mama about it and so on. The Master is thus a HERO!

The shipowner then panicked and blamed everything on his shipmaster!

This will develop into a very interesting Italian drama. http://heiwaco.tripod.com/news8.htm

I see man thanks I hadn't seen that. There does seem to be a dangling chain or something coming from the fore of the ship on the side it capsizes in the few evening pictures that exist.

In other news we are told that:

* Among the survivors is one "Valentina Capuano", direct descendant of one of the victims of the Titanic. Of course.

* Captain Schettino has been placed under house arrest, perhaps so that he can try and kill himself, in order to make this story even more dramatic, complicated, emotional and distracting.

* The aforementioned quite insightful article from SeaNews Turkey has been updated in the meantime, showing a slightly different passage near those rocks (the picture incorrectly calls them "Isole del scole". The name is "Le Scole"):

If I were a journalist I'd send a sub with a camera to picture the damage to those rocks. But I bet this won't happen anytime soon...

Oh damn! I'll buy you pint a beer, Nonho - promise !

This 11 thing is getting pretty boring ! Here's a series of news articles - ALL related to the COSTA CONCORDIA :

THE DEATH TOLL IS NOW 11 - with 22 WOUNDED
"Costa Concordia: ultimo bilancio ufficioso parla di 11 morti e 22 feriti"
http://www.meteoweb.eu/2012/01/costa-co ... ti/111211/

THE CAPTAIN OF THE CONCORDIA HAS WORKED FOR 11 YEARS FOR THE SHIP OWNER:
The 52-year-old Schettino, described by the Italian media as a genial, tanned ship's officer, has worked for 11 years for the ship's owner and was made captain in 2006.

THERE HAVE BEEN 11 MILLION PASSENGERS IN ITALIAN PORTS IN 2011
"11 milioni i passeggeri nei porti italiani con una crescita del 17% nel 2011"
http://video.repubblica.it/edizione/gen ... 5743?video

THE CRUISE SHIP BUSINESS IN THE MEDITERANNEAN IS WORTH 11 BILLION EURO
"Il business delle navi da crociera del Mediterraneo vale ben 11 miliardi di euro e potrebbe crescere ancora negli ultimi anni (...)"
http://it.ibtimes.com/articles/26704/20 ... cebook.htm

THE COSTA CONCORDIA IS THE 11TH SHIP IN THE CARNIVAL'S FLEET
"The Costa Concordia is the 11th ship in Carnival's fleet. It is not only the largest Costa vessel ever built, it's also the largest ever constructed by Europeans to be aimed, primarily, at Europeans."
http://www.cruisecritic.com/reviews/rev ... ShipID=371

THE BONDS OF THE CARNIVAL COMPANY (THE OWNERS OF THE COSTA CONCORDIA SHIP) COULD BE DEVALUED BY 11 CENTS :D  :P
Un’azienda come la Carnival che anche in periodi di crisi ha avuto utili e ricavi per miliardi di dollari, non è certo contenta di sapere che una manovra sbagliata della Costa Concordia potrà ridurre di 11 centesimi il valore dei titolI.

There seems to be an ongoing agenda to discourage travel in general via periodic, media-hyped plane, train, boat "accidents" as well as movies and television depicting same. This has been going on for quite some time now.

I'm sure we haven't heard the last of this one as the press bleeds every ounce of "shock" value possible out if it. And, I suppose the January 13 date and death toll of 11 pretty well tells us who is behind it. Now, let me guess -- did it go aground in 33 feet of water? B)
