Relativity Specialist

If NASA faked the moon landings, does the agency have any credibility at all? Was the Space Shuttle program also a hoax? Is the International Space Station another one? Do not dismiss these hypotheses offhand. Check out our wider NASA research and make up your own mind about it all.

It gets funnier with every step...

You say you have a problem with the wording "expert" and at the same time you describe your friends at MIT as "stellar characters" (i.e. Godlike creatures with astronomical expertise) and you say "I don't think I havr a point, I know it. Doesn't a claim like that surpass an "expert" status by a slight bit?

Everyone has expertise and all expertise is relative (actually your field of expertise if I'm not mistaken?). Saying that thermodynamics and thermal properties (e.g. conductivity) is "too long ago and it would take months to get back to a decent level" is a pretty lame excuse, don't you think?

High school physics, chemistry and biology are for most people ages ago, but at the same time I never heard any physisict, chemist or biologist hiding behind that; you're the first one I "met" that does so.

Also, admittedly a complete non-expert in relativity (that Einstein saga I mean), I'd think thermodynamics is rather useful, almost crucial, in understanding "The Big Bang" or "the characteristics of deep space", but I may be completely mistaken of course....

There's another quote from you which caught my attention: "matter is composed of atoms and molecules". That's like saying a cupboard is made of wood and shelves".

Matter is composed of molecules which are in turn composed of atoms just like a cupboard is made of shelves which are made of wood.

Let's take a shiny example; diamonds. You know that diamonds, when pure, are made of C-atoms, right? C stands for Carbon in case you forgot basic chemistry. A diamond is in essence a molecule; made up of carbon atoms [arranged in the most perfect way to create the hardest and most precious substance on Earth].

But this all diverts some lightyears from the original topic; rockets in space and why you think KNOW they actually work there...

PS: I've moved my response to you to your own topic that admin hoi.polloi kindly created especially for you especially. Let's keep this rather fruitless discussion here and in case you actually have some decent content to add, including an elaboration on your email which Simon quoted let's keep that in the Rockets in Vacuum thread, ok? If Simon or hoi disagrees, please let them correct me, I am a mere member, just like you Pete.

What specifically did you do?
Do you have any photos of you and your workmates with "Chandra"? Surely a momentous experience? Like hoi, I'm curious to know what you worked on exactly! Were you polishing the wingnuts on a container to be placed inside or working on the actual satellite telescope itself??

Well, this may be the silliest thread on the whole forum. So much time and attention being paid to a new member who has given no indication yet of acting in good faith, or likely to contribute anything useful. He/it has manifested the full gamut of 'woe-is-me, y'all are so mean' defensiveness of your common troll.

You are absolutely right, Fbenario - and it's all my 'fault', so to speak: I am the one who invited "pmb-the -physicist" to come and explain for us all the 'physics of rocketry in the void of space' - something which, to be sure, none of us here seem to understand. :P

See, I was curious to at least try and understand what sort of folks propagate the outlandish idea of 'vacuum propulsion' - as sold to the world by NASA. Are they ALL 'common trolls', as you call them? Quite possibly - however, I say they could be one of two things (or both):

- Common trolls (paid disinfo professionals)
- Individuals with severe personality issues

As it turns out, I am now satisfied that this "pmb" character falls into either one or the other - or both - of the above categories.

Here is "pmb"''s homepage (a hat tip to 'Observer', who found it and sent me the link) : http://home.comcast.net/~peter.m.brown/
You don't want to miss this personal story from "pmb"'s website (retrieved through the Wayback Machine): https://web.archive.org/web/20150427065 ... _nurse.htm

Sad. Or sickening. Or both. <_<

It should now be evident to any sound mind that a favorite 'trick' of the rogue Liars-That-Be (aka "The Nutwork" clowns) is to propagate their wretched pseudoscience with the aid of characters /entities with a (scripted) history of personal hardship / disability / mental issues / suicidal tendencies and whatnot. In fact, the emotionally-charged narrative behind these characters acts as a 'heat shield' from public scrutiny of the gobbledygook being peddled to the masses as 'true science.'
