Re: Fakery in Orbit: THE I$$

I think for future passes (tomorrow night if all goes well!) Oops - the night after tomorrow actually. November 29th. I'll post some details on the camera settings and also get the charts for comparison later So I originally planned to use a longer exposure, like 15-20 seconds, but because it was s...

Re: Fakery in Orbit: THE I$$

Finally a clear night! Observations: At 23x magnification it looks like a tiny bright light. At 67x magnification (had to refocus) I couldn't keep it in the frame long enough to get a good look. I think I saw the "H" shape, but I'm not sure because of the movement. I think for future passe...

Re: Our World (The 'cold' of space and our Universe that isn

How can this be correct if the distance to the Sun can't be measured? The sun's distance can be measured, just not from the values used in the video. Measuring distance from elevation angles also requires that the angle difference between the local horizons be calculated with arcsecond precision, a...

Re: Fakery in Orbit: THE I$$

If I look up the chart for 3 or 4 different locations a few km apart, how would Heavens Above and Stellarium and Calsky all "know" from which location I would really make observations and hence which one they should show me accurate path data? And indeed for evening passes I have an alter...

Re: Our World (The 'cold' of space and our Universe that isn

Great job debunking. Even I nearly understood. So what is the calculated distance to the Sun using trig with these values? Which I think was the object of the exercise. You can't really calculate the sun's distance accurately with those values due to the sun position calculator having an a...

Re: Fakery in Orbit: THE I$$

I eagerly await the findings of Nonrappaport come Monday. As do I, but it looks as though the weather won't be cooperating. :( https://i.imgur.com/yA73FuS.png It's supposed to rain Sunday, but hopefully it will clear up before evening. Otherwise the 26th is out. :o Sky is currently 100% grey with n...

Re: Fakery in Orbit: THE I$$

I found this video, which attempts (and fails) to triangulate the position of the sun, interesting as well: Te9nu6MgpCA Anyway, I'd be interested in your thoughts, especially on the Sun position video and if there are any glaring problems with it (I couldn't find any, but I'm no "rocket scient...

This is just to explicitly debunk the YouTube "Where is the Sun" videos put out by the channel "conandrum74", which have been brought up in the thread Fakery in Orbit: THE I$$ , here and here , but this thread seems a more appropriate place to deal with it. https://www.youtube.co...

Anyway, I'd be interested in your thoughts, especially on the Sun position video and if there are any glaring problems with it Sorry I missed that in my last reply. It was a little difficult to figure out exactly what he was doing in the video, but now I see that he was using locations in a great (...

Re: Fakery in Orbit: THE I$$

So an hypothesis is that a moving light in the sky, perhaps even with a particular shape, could be achieved by projecting a strong light/laser beam onto the ionosphere. An interesting idea and it might be possible if the ionosphere were reflective to visible light, but it doesn't seem to be since w...

Re: Fakery in Orbit: THE I$$

Thank you NotRappaport for your contributions, I look forward to the results of your experiment when you are able to obtain them! Thank you, I'm looking forward to it too. Clouds better stay away on Sunday night! Some simple calculations (parallax, triangulation) based on it's apparent position as ...

Re: Fakery in Orbit: THE I$$

What do you make of the photography of the ISS? Looks pretty "legit" no? It could be. There was an eclipse that day, and there was supposedly an area where a transit would be visible too. However I have not yet seen the ISS through a telescope (although I soon will) so I can't say for cer...

No it was the other guy, "Dustin" (didn't catch his last name). It looks like he left the solar filters on his scope and camera during totality, thereby completely missing the opportunity to photograph the best part of a total solar eclipse.

Re: Fakery in Orbit: THE I$$

I looked out the window this morning and it was pouring rain. Its still raining now over an hour later. First really good rain we've had in months and it happens today! :puke: Now waiting for the next good pass, which is tomorrow morning (even earlier). After that the next one is the 26th (evening ...

16-Nov: long exposure pictures with the camera's 70mm lens. I'll also try to see the thing through my telescope, but I won't hook the camera up to it.
